Man of His Time

Defining loneliness by a carving of a stone Shadows of reality make me suddenly walk alone His power and wisdom have vanished from my sight Trailing only memories on how to do things right Like the ending of the seasons,I heard his final stand Enhancing my integrity, I squeezed his trembling hand Telling me of yesteryear, when a hand shake was your word Speaking words of wisdom and how it should be heard Recalling the glory days, when we had a country full of trust When families stayed together, and worked from dawn to dusk His story ended abruptly,as he said his time is near Then he softly spoke of love,as I learned the meaning of fear I'll always remember those words he said While he slowly slipped away I wish I had a chance to tell him What I had in my heart to say You said,' your life is over, and mine has just begun' 'But Dad,I forgot to tell you,I'm proud to be your son'
