Man Believed and Dreams Came True

Man Believed and Dreams Came True

Man looked up and saw birds fly.
Then, dreamed of soaring in skies.
Balloons, blimps, and hand-gliders
Rockets, shuttles, planes. Man flies!

Man looked out and saw seas near.
Then, dreamed of swimming with fish.
Skins, tow sleds, and breathing gear.
Aquanauts!  Man’s fulfilled wish.

Man looked out and saw daylight.
Then dreamed of seeing at night.
Lamps, lanterns, flashlights, streetlights-
Man made his nights glowing bright.

Man looked around; saw earth’s sights.
Then, dreamed he could move mountains.
Bulldozers, hooks, dynamite.
Tunnels pass through!  Man attaines.

Since I'm generally a cynical person most of the time, I'd add in 'man sees tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and lightning reigning destruction on the earth and said "me too" and proceeded to invent the atomic bomb.' Man's fulfilled wish...

The tunnels are fine, but man's "bulldozers, hooks, dynamite" have scarred our planet and destroyed life-giving forests and wetlands. What a terrific poem! Love you! Carolyn
