Man Believed and Dreams Came True

Man Believed and Dreams Came True By Dane Smith-Johnsen Man looked up and saw birds fly. Then, dreamed of soaring in skies. Balloons, blimps, and hand-gliders Rockets, shuttles, planes. Man flies! Man looked out and saw seas near. Then, dreamed of swimming with fish. Skins, tow sleds, and breathing gear. Aquanauts! Man’s fulfilled wish. Man looked out and saw daylight. Then dreamed of seeing at night. Lamps, lanterns, flashlights, streetlights- Man made his nights glowing bright. Man looked around; saw earth’s sights. Then, dreamed he could move mountains. Bulldozers, hooks, dynamite. Tunnels pass through! Man attaines. ã Dane Ann Smith-Johnsen August 31, 2009

Very nice Dane. All such great achievements to be sure. Since I'm generally a cynical person most of the time, I'd add in 'man sees tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and lightning reigning destruction on the earth and said "me too" and proceeded to invent the atomic bomb.' Man's fulfilled wish...

Brilliant perspective on turning dreams into reality, Dane. Loved the last verse. Really hits home for us environmentalists. The tunnels are fine, but man's "bulldozers, hooks, dynamite" have scarred our planet and destroyed life-giving forests and wetlands. What a terrific poem! Love you! Carolyn

Wonderful flow and rhyme in this creative look at mans ingenuity. There is no limit as to what can be achieved and it is a good thing if we remember to preserve the the balance between nature and technology. Thank you for sharing and your thoughtful comment, Dane Ann! Love, Robin
