Mama’s Coconut Cake

soft as a whisper, light as air layers stacked with tender care coconut spun like winter’s lace a birthday wish, a warm embrace frosting whipped, not much too sweet but rich with love, a secret treat each bite a cloud, a sugared dream vanilla kissed with coconut cream the candles flicker, shadows dance her hands so sure, her knowing glance she cuts a slice, sets it down a taste of love in golden brown years have passed, the cake remains a tender thread through time and change i close my eyes, i taste, i see— mama’s hands still bake for me

Sweet memories we sometimes keep to carry on with the best that life has for us. I felt a tug at my heart with the "Mama's hands still bake for me"

Paige, thank you so much. Your words touched me just as deeply--“memories we sometimes keep to carry on…” That’s exactly what this poem is for me. That last line tugged at my own heart when I wrote it, and knowing it tugged at yours too… that means the world.
