Making Memories

Every day we live might be A day that we’ll remember, Burning brightly just before It fizzles to an ember. How are we to know at first Which memories will stick? The choices aren’t ours to make – The brain will search and pick. An ordinary moment Sometimes stands out from the rest. Only time determines if That flash will pass the test. In our later years, perhaps, We’ll look back at this day, Remembering some magic tug That held us in its sway.

Hi Ilene - Memories are so important. I agree that sometimes an ordinary moment is not so ordinary when we reflect on it. Enjoyed this poem, too! - Gail

The commonplace, the everyday, behind its familiar facade being most likely to hold surprise, the memories to treasure. . . You captured something I've struggled to write very beautifully Ilene. Superb writing. - Chuck

Lovely and true words, Ilene! We never know which memories will stick. Music seems to bring back memories from my youth like nothing else. I'm listening to music from the seventies right now because I'm feeling nostalgic. Thanks for sharing. Happy Easter to you and your family. Hugs, Rhonda

This is a nice poem, and is well-written, I enjoyed reading each verse of it, especially about which moment in our life will be remembered later on in our years, the brain is something else! (smile)
