Making History

Did NOT accidentally assassinate
The next future favorite candidate
For President of the United States
(I ran through that stop light a split-second late)
And changed the course of history today

I helped to convince him to father a son
Who'll murder his mother with his dad's gun
I can't take it back, it's already done
I said it somehow, somewhere to someone
And changed the course of history today

I begged their forgiveness for causing such strife
The anger I spewed must have stabbed like a knife
By hugging my son and kissing my wife
I put back some joy into somebody's life
And changed the course of history today

No less important than paupers or kings
(I stepped out to check what the mail lady brings)
Snapped that dead branch where the mockingbird sings
And so kept my place in the order of things
And changed the course of history today

Quite a profound poem, testifying to how what we say or do affect the course of history. Very well written and throught provoking. I enjoyed this great work of the pen. Caroline.
