Make Me Some Room

When times were rough
And hope was gone
You showed me stuff
-to carry on

When things were lean
When things got thin
And cold outside
You let me in

For want of warmth
And others turned
You made a fire
But I never got burnt

When I was stoned at the station
I waited for a train
You came to fetch me
And freed me from pain

You helped me up
When I was stuck on the ground
That look you gave
... I knew that sound

You gave me money
When I was broke
You made me laugh
With stupid jokes

You gave me wisdom
When I was dumb
When things were strict
We had some fun

When I was cripple
You pushed my chair
You solved my trouble
You were always there

Alone in the trenches
You got my back
You fought like a demon
When they attacked

My promise is this:
Ill try to go on
Ill try to let go
You go on now

Just follow the light
Ill follow you soon
You go on ahead now
Go make me some room

Oh, my dear, Jannie, where to start? First, the joy tickle from your mention of me in your intro, thanks. THIS POEM IS ONE OF THE TOP POEMS OF ALL THE POEMS I HAVE READ ON THIS SITE IN SUM TOTAL. Tired, so hope that made sense. Some of the phrasing and words blew me away. No doubt your's is a writers heart and this poem is your heart in gold for all to behold as it touches their emotion known and unfolds its unknown, layered roots in a poetic gift of clarity. You bled on this one for us all. Ca.

This is beautiful, my friend, though I'm so sorry for the loss that inspired it ... grief is as common as happiness, (and as important, in ways), but so much tougher on the soul. Gorgeous poem, Jannie - I hope you are well. I don't "see" you around as much lately, but I know you're busy. Drop me a note anytime, (you still have my email?) Love you, Bud.
