Notes About The Poem

Contest: Lighthouse Poetry Contest

Sponsor: Sara Kendrick

Date: 6/26/26

Maine Lighthouses

rugged wave battered
rocky coast of Maine
ships easily smashed
in to kindling
cold Labrador current
sweeping down from Canada
claims many lives

sixty-five lighthouses built
from Lobster Point in the south
to Whitlock’s Mill in the north
bass fog horns and
flashing lights
guide the sailors
home from the sea

The image of a lighthouse has always been intriguing. Thank s for your poem about them. I can visualize the beauty and brutality of the sea in your description.
