Magpies don't love
I don’t want to give you roses
Or words as sweet as chocolates
Shiny diamonds or love poems
I want to carve out my heart and serve it to you raw
Show you who I am and tell you the truth:
You hurt me like a knife to my chest
And some of the words you say bring tears to my eyes
But most of the words you say make my stomach ache with laughter.
I don’t love you
At least not in the way they tell me to
With sugar dusted words and fake smiles
I love you because of the person you are and how you make me feel
I hate you because you stop the words leaving my mouth and you make me feel weak
I love you even when its dull and worn
Because those are the signs of love.
