Magdalena

“MAGDALENA”

she wakes with strategies to avoid.
the sounds of her anxiousness to live
scream loud but she is patient.
she dresses and puts her glasses on.
her hair sits gently on each side of
her face as she rotates the necklace
I gave her.
it’s a reminder of another life that
loves her.
we’ve kissed very few times in eight
years but that is what makes each
one real.
we’ve been dead away from each other,
we’ve been alive when we are with each
other and we are love when we hold
each other.
she fills her lungs with smoke
as I murder my liver with Pacific.
we didn’t always say goodnight,
we didn’t always say I love you
but we meant it every day.
tonight we look at the same moon
within the same love and she is mine.

goodnight my darling,
I love you.
