Madrid Del Dia

Senses overwhelmed, history revealed,
           I step into Plaza Mayor.
Antique hues of pinks and grays stun.
           Madrid welcomes me.

    Late sun casts golden shadows.
          Camaraderie envelops.
I peel my brain for words.

       Spanish brass serenades,
           a musical aperitif.
       Thoughts turn to supper,
           as I walk and walk.

I see it, “Menu del Dia” in amber and red.
        Savory breeze guides me.
It reads, "Tapas, Chorizo y Jamon",
              I can’t resist

      Vino Tinto completes me
         as I wonder the day.

                 9/28/17

Everyone said, “Always order the Menu del Dia”
With that and little else, I headed for Spain

Thank you for entering my Foreign Travel contest and congratulations on your placement! Your short tour drew me in and I loved how the scent of food drove you. How many times that has also steered my wandering!

It translates as Today's Menu. It's the specials that the restaurant are offering that day and it is usually the best. My friends had advised me. Nearly every restaurant and café had a sandwich board sign outside advising the Menu del Dia!

oh, Mike, I adore this country. I got to spend almost five months there! Probably the best experience of my entire youth. My favorite was the potato omelets, so fattening how they put them between bread, bocadillos I think they called it!! GREAT poem with the emphasis on the food, which I also adore.
