Mad World

Shoulder to shoulder, stand rifle in hand
wait in anticipation, wait to die
for someone, something we don't understand
a war without reason, they can't deny,

Natures beauty lost to mans destruction
wallowing in mud, blood, below our feet
our leaders desert us no inspection
over the top our enemies to meet

advance, advance is all that I could hear
wish I could wake from this awful nightmare
not encountered excruciating fear
this is more than any human can bare,

Dense smoke filled air, bullets, shells being hurled
Making life a nonsense in this mad world.

Nice write, the title brought me in for the song Mad World by Tears For Fears. I've always thought war is fighting over a piece of dirt. Which makes it very sad for all the service people who are losing their life for the greedy ones. 7

Thank you very much Debbie for your very kind comment, I confess I was looking at trying to produce a poem for the contest but felt this was to off context after posting it, thanks again, Roy. :))

A very poignant write, Roy. Interesting how the song inspired this one! Best of luck in the contest. Regards, John.

War certainly is mad Roy, so many wasted lives on each side, lives changed for ever. A profound write and a seven.
