Lying On a Sunlit Beach

Lying on a sunlit beach on a gentle June morning.
Remembering how to lollygag, feeling luxuriously lazy.
I hear a sigh as my heart slows down, and I begin easy breathing.
I am slunk in a lawn chair, enjoying the sun’s rays warming my face.

Once again, I have to re-remember how to enjoy myself,
To let go, and just be.
A seagull screams. I smile.
Tittering laughter carries from down the beach.
A young child.

I had forgotten how relaxing this is.
Every year I have to come back
In order to experience it, so I can remember.
My eyes begin to close.
My book can wait.
I need to just feel.

I'm with you. Relaxing on the beach sounds so easy, really...
