My internal clock is a bane to me waking me from dreams of paradise thrusting me into life's stark reality not allowing sleep when closing my eyes No matter how many hours of sleep I need I wake between three and four o'clock Eyes wide open, blood red as if they bleed I lie awake, listening to the clock... tick tock My thoughts run through a gambit of things that insist on keeping me tossing and turning Is there truth in believing angels have wings? I welcome Dawn but for sleep I am yearning There are times when I pace in soft candlelight hoping my lids grow heavy with need of sleep but it's not to be... haunting reveries take flight refusing me the restful peace of slumber deep In these times of quiet hours of early morn when blurry eyed, I pick up my pen and write rhymed verses in which I chastise and scorn my internal clock that wakes me before daylight

A poem that echoes through the long corridors of insomnia....your lines sound a familiarity. Strange, I wrote a poem on the same subject a few days ago that I didn’t post...couldn't quite finish. You've done the job for me dear Lin...grateful.

Nights bleed into mornings when sleep remains elusive. Paul, you must finish your poem. I would really love to read your thoughts about it.

Sleepless nights, when your mind is wandering with many thoughts. Try not to think anything, you will catch the sleep. One positive thing, we get your nice poems from sleepness nights.

Thanks so much for suggestion, Jay. And you made me smile with your 'positive thing' about my poetry. I really like your new photograph.

Nothing worse than a broken night's sleep, Lin, when I was working 03.00 and 04.00 was my get up time, my body clock is well screwed. I do have the odd nap in the afternoon sometimes, trying to break away from that though. Tom

oh my, Lin! I can empathize with your plight and can relate to it. Although I no longer toss and turn from all the thoughts in my head, I awaken between 3 and 4 a.m. like it's 10 a.m. I remember my grandmother's similar frustration. Oh what I might do for a good night's, uninterrupted sleep! Anyway, your words captured the yearn for sleep and the frustration you experience. Have a pleasant evening. hugs, Sara PS Remember when you awaken that I'm probably doing the same thing!

Oh, I'm sorry to hear you suffer the same fate. If I could nap during the day it may not be so bad, but my body is used to it now, so I just live with it. I really like being awake before the sun rises... it's a beautiful sight to witness. Thanks, Sara and I WILL think that you're awake, too. hugs.

Sometimes I'm getting sleepy when everyone is waking up. I've survived so far. Thanks, Mark.

i can sympathise Lin as i have suffered sleep issues since hubby had cancer surgery in 2013, and it was then I picked up my pen and began writing. I can especially relate to stanza 4 - I need sleep but its not to be:-( hugs jan xx

It's been like this for years, Jan. No matter what time I fall asleep, I wake at the same time, and I refuse to start taking sleep aids. Thanks for comments and sorry you can relate.
