Lying
with thanks to A. Solzhenitsyn
The talking heads on the T.V.
Masterful in their deceit
Do they know that we can see
Their blatant dishonesty?
And what’s their purpose? What’s the end
For the signals they all send?
And how are people to defend
Against the lies that they commend?
We know they are lying…
They know we know they’re lying…
We know they know we know they’re lying
Still they lie.
Everybody knows that guy
So angry when you won’t comply
Screaming out his battle cry
But it’s still just another lie.
Pray tell, what does he think he’ll gain
In following the fad campaign?
And is it worth it to explain
The truth to those who are insane?
We know they are lying…
They know we know they’re lying…
We know they know we know they’re lying
Still they lie.
Politicos in Washington,
Dems, Republicans, they’re all one.
Hear them speak when the campaign’s run
But in the end there’s nothing done.
And we all know it’s all a lie
To try to fool the average guy
They stand up and they speechify
To placate the dissatisfied.
We know they are lying…
They know we know they’re lying…
We know they know we know they’re lying
Still they lie.
