Lunch Friend

Falling like an autumn leaf He jumps to get the crumbs I’ve dropped. With wings in his pockets, his bright eye winks. I want to pick him up and feel the tremble of his little life. His brothers and sisters always find me whenever I eat lunch outside. My sparrow friend can spot a sandwich anywhere in the park. He is such a busy fellow, but he has no phone.

Nice Jeanette . Your opening line. There’s the kinship between bird and leaf. This little one made me chuckle. SuZ

Yes, me too. I wrote this some time ago. I noticed I'd used the image again in another bird poem too...a repetitive theme :) Kookaburras though...they are more solid!
