Lunch
Today we'll meet for lunch
and talk of times past.
I've known him since I can remember,
and have been with him three times
in the last fifty years.
We'll talk of failures, success
and tarnished dreams,
lament broken relationships
and what could have been,
and celebrate wives, children
and new generations.
Our conversation will have gaps of silence,
giving time to reflect and exhume memories.
Once again, we think it will be fun.
Once again, I'll leave with a sadness
reserved for reunions.
