Lucky Escape
when the slope of our lives
tilted downwards in agony
suspended in hopeless dreams
and fortunate resilience
we eloped together
scraped traces of a future
from the debris of sorrow
and took off into the light
gathered the moon
spooned together and joined
our remains at hip mind and soul
a stellar spectacle
unveiled eclipses for what they were
shadows of rays to caress
contours for illustration
mosaic patchwork pastels and sepia
free flowing disinhibition
personified artwork in progress
your ruby lips and southern complexion
the aura and irresistible smile
mesmerizing pushing and pulling
guide the compass and magnetic embrace
memories and compassion grace our passage
and imprint the joy of daring adventure
for when one did not take to the road
on a lesser travelled path one never knew
what one would miss on the journey
not a day has passed since we absconded
from past terrors misery and surrender
without essence gratitude and elation
because a kiss of life’s beauty
breathed love kindness and compassion
into a seed bed of meaning
companionship hot coupling
holding each other firm on the soil
at which roots and wings grew
from the moment we escaped
