Swarms of them form now—
An evil portent for sure!
Shades of illusion . . . 
	An evil that’s palpable . . . 
Now’s your last chance to escape!

Symbolically speaking, I wonder if these Luciferin Flies could be compared to the politicians who are going to extremes in efforts to win votes now. And there really is no escape from them. All-consuming ads, phone calls and emails vying for votes as well as campaign contributions. I'll have to check out the actual flies. I suspect they'd be more welcome on my property. Great tanka, Gary!

Hello Carolyn, Many Thanks for your rather insightful comments here!! I got a definite chuckle with your comparison to the various politicians seeking both money and votes. How True!! (The actual flies, in effect, are a type of fire-fly that glow brightly in the dark, and are oft referenced at times in certain poetic themes.) Glad you liked the Tanka!! Cheers, Gary
