Loyalty Gone

Once was a young fellow in Ghent His dog followed where’er he went As the years swiftly passed, His dog he would outlast Now he’s a sad, lonesome old gent.

I think I've known a few people like this. Their pets were everything to them, and they outlived their pets. It was difficult to continue. I hesitate to get a dog or a cat now, because I feel like they will outlive me. Then, who would take care of them. A pet is like a child, you know. Once you take them, you have this tremendous obligation to be there for them.

On a lark, he went down to the pound // ’Twas a sweet, sad-eyed Lab that he found // It was love at first sight // A true joy and delight // Now that each has the other around

Oh, how I think so. Jeff, I think I'd like to add your limerick to mine, if you don't mind. I'll give you credit! Let me know.

That kind of love and loyalty is bound to be missed! A touching, finely crafted limerick, Milton. All good wishes, Evelyn :)
