Confronting fragile feelings within;
pain will inevitably begin.
And pride rebuffs attempts to amend,
the sins that you stubbornly defend.
In a world of shakers and takers,
trickery breeds liars and fakers.
And fledgling spirits, clipped of their wings;
attract trouble and the tears it brings.
Doubt devastates your heart with despair;
letting uncertainty foul the air.
You tell yourself you're not like the rest,
yet studying love, you fail its test.
Rife with both flattery and deceit;
memories are often bittersweet.
And blind to the jealousy you bear,
it bends the truth; well beyond repair.
Fears that fester in shadow and dream;
constantly prey on low self-esteem.
For in truth, there's nothing more tragic;
than a heart bereft of love's magic.
