Love Warriors

Love's Warriors by Rick Rucker Poems are a way to tell love's story, Mostly sweet, sometimes gory, True love's path is never straight, At times, love may turn to hate, And back again, in a minute, Leaving you shell shocked if you're in it! Love can be capricious, true, Especially when it is new. After you have some history, Love's not so dark a mystery, In a minefield, you need not balk, If you know just where to walk. Why would you risk it, even care? True love is that thing most rare, A searing heat that has the power, To consume you by the hour, More or less the same As a moth to the flame, The difference is, the moth will die, While, away wounded lovers can fly, To another flame to try, To recreate that thrilling high. Scientists have tried, in the lab, To see why we are not on a slab, After such a beating taken, Happy still, love not forsaken. Ready soon to mount that saddle, Sitting proud, into battle. Numbers cannot seem to tell, Why we risk virtual Hell, The research would not be needed, If the doctors only heeded, Love's siren call, impossible to resist, They would know, when they kissed, Their true love, then they would fall, Under love's enfolding thrall.
