Love That Went Out With the Tide...

You disappeared in smoke and in mirrors
cloaked with invisible ink
I heard you whisper to draw me in nearer
like the voice of my conscience, on the verge, on the brink
of the biggest decision a soul has to face.

You struck my breath and snatched dragging hours
floating on butterfly thoughts
I wound you around me, a boa of feathers
like the warmth of a balmy night, constantly sought
in the silver moon's wintry face.

You left a light on for me to come home to
buzzing with night bugs and moths
I stopped for coffee and creamed conversation
like the steam in the air, were our words, were our thoughts
as the snow slipped to sleet without pride.

'Till you disappeared into smoke, into mirrors
tragic, when you stop to think
that I opened up volumes and poured in your presence
like the text wasn't finished 'till your name was in ink,
ink that's invisible when dried, like your love that went out with the tide...
