Love School

What can I say that'll add proof
on a day like today?
I the wed, I do, in sickness,
in laughter, when your upset
and say "what's it matter."
What can I say that isn't
a fairytale but unbelievably
real? We only have today
However, if God is generous,
I promise to pray each day &
Heaven and earth will bear witness
& everyone here is charged
to remind me of my purpose:
To nurture, love and cherish
this gift that God has given.
And if He answers prayers the way
He did by bringing you
in my atmosphere,
I might be lucky enough
to breathe a lifetime of you.
Just like in grade school
we both have 100s.
I'll work diligently to be present
and attentive. I may need a little
extra credit from time to time
but I'll do whatever
if it means making up with you.
Today's our fairytale
some months or years
down life's settled path
when storms try to wash us away,
I promise to remain in school
learning how to love you
equal to or greater than
August twenty-ninth
our first day.
