Love Poem

I have written a poem
for you etched
in the morning frost.
It tells of my love
and how, all through
the long night, I have
held you in my thoughts.

You felt so close
that I could almost hear
you breathe - the air
carrying the warmth
of your presence.
I clung desperately
to your silence.

The sun now
is casting its harsh light
through the trees.
The poem I wrote
for you is beginning
to melt. I recite it
to the wind

hoping it will carry
my words
to your waiting ear.
I know it will not.
I have written
so many poems
over the years.
