Love over Hate

I, too, have tasted the evil of hatred
when all I wanted to share was my love.
With untruths and lies I was baited
because the hue of my skin wasn’t as white as the dove.

Mercilessly unloved and hated,
You may not believe it but it happened to me,
falsely accused in the name of Apartheid.
Emerging from darkness to light I can now see.

Striding a path from weakness to strength.
Praising the Lord, I seek justice not a fight
and peace over this land’s breadth;
I chose love over hate, justice and light.

Beautiful Pascal ! I like how you bring the poem to your concluding choice. Good rhymes & cadence. Nice concise clear title. Keep writing. Have a lovely weekend., Ghairo.

Thank you Ghairo, I am pleased you liked it. I spent quite a few years in your beautiful country, both pre and post Apartheid. I was there at Mandela's release from prison and during the elections. How peaceful everything went! I am now reading your poetry and I like it. Wish you lots of success and happiness. Pascal
