LOVE HURTS
Love sits heavy on my chest
a fever that sweetens pain
it warms the pain it cannot cure
and leaves me begging to feel again.
Each touch a promise half-fulfilled
each kiss a wound that softly bleeds
I call it joy, but deep within
it whispers sorrow’s silent creed.
Love asks for all yet gives no peace
a saint that smiles while watching burn
the hearts it claims to sanctify
a cruel teacher we never learn.
Still, I bow before its flame
for in the pain, I find my worth
love afflicts, but in its pain
we taste the beauty of this earth.
