Love Happens

Boyfriend, girlfriend: that is
what they are known by
They promise never to say to
each other goodbye.

They call what is between them,
love,
But does it last a quarter their
age for them to have?

“Oh, let me warn you, sisters in
Jerusalem, by the gazelles,
Yes, by all the wild deer: don’t
excite love, don’t stare it up,
Until the time is ripe and you’re
ready.”

Boyfriend, girlfriend; if you have
me queried,
Love just happens.
                                 Alva
kanyika.
