Love From Your Daughter

Dear Stranger, last time I wrote to you, well it was me telling you what you missed out on. Not sure if you are aware of this but you have been gone for 30 years now. All those memories that could have happened.
Mom found an old photo of you two when you were barely in your 20's. She hung it on the wall. By the way, nice hair really styling Stranger. Yeah I'm lightly teasing you. I've been told I get that from you; the subtle little jabs but always knowing where the line was not to cross.
You should see your grandson. The boy is tall. I'm half expecting him to hit the ceiling any day now. And your granddaughter, she is well, she is something else at times. The girl can be sweet then a smartmouth. Remind you of anyone?
Stranger even though it has been three decades I still remember the day you left the world. How the nurse kind of pushed my sister and myself out of the room saying let's go get some grape popsicles. Like that was going to make it better? I want to remember that we were going there to tell you that you were coming home the next day. Something tells me however that we missed you by minutes before you left to go wherever you ended up in the afterlife.
Your older daughter, well she is always on the go. Always doing something running whatever fuels her that day. That is you coming out in her. Pretty sure if you were around you would go to ball games with her.
I remember your own father telling you that if you didn't sit down, he was going to staple you to a recliner even when you were sick just so you would stop running around like a chicken with your head cut off.
I still remember the lesson you taught me when I was five. About knowing my limits of how much stuff I could do. Just makes me wonder, did you ever stop to think about your own limits when you were sick? When your mother got to where you are did she start yelling at you or hugging you or doing both at the same time? I feel like your father would roll his eyes at her telling her to let you go. Well you probably went off to go fishing with my aunt. I heard you took her fishing once or twice back in the day. You probably know that your niece is living with us; she has the same talent for drawing as your sister in law.
I do have to ask Stranger, what would you think of my being a writer? The fact that I have been writing (sometimes not very clear) since you left that means something. It might not be hundred percent tied to you in so many ways it is. A part of me always wanted to know. Would you read my writings and think well, I'm not sure what you would think? But knowing you, well you would say if it made you happy then you were happy. Maybe one day you will get to tell me that in person.

Love,

 From your youngest daughter
