LOVE COMES NEAR

A fatherless generation
153 million or more
Abandoned and forgotten
Desperate and poor

A prisoner to hopelessness
Everyday so full of fear
In this chaotic world they live in
Nothing is ever clear
Could one soul make a difference..
If one could bring love near?

I've seen a thousand pictures
That can't escape my mind
Children without futures,
special needs of every kind

So much pain and suffering
And none of it makes sense
Orphans weary and distressed
In the present tense
So forgive me, my friends
if this sounds intense...

But I'm gonna say this loud
to make it clear
We've got to be doers
we can't disappear
We really need to care
let's remove excuse and fear
You and me are the difference
If we bring love near!

Today precious babies
Are abandoned with HIV or Downs
The world sees them as broken
Unwanted, lost and unfound
I pray there'll rise an advocate
Who refuses to let this be

So I'm gonna say this loud
to make it clear
We've got to be doers
we can't disappear
We really need to care
let's remove excuse and fear
You and me are the difference
if we bring love near!

In another country
That seems so far away
A teenage orphaned princess
Is aging out today
Someone needs to cry out
This sex-trade tragedy is not ok

So will you say this loud
to make it clear
We've got to be doers
we can't disappear
We really need to care
let's remove excuse and fear
You and me are the difference
if we bring love near!

Let's advocate loud, and not disappear
If we really care, we can bring love near!

~Lyric Man

Note: This is a write about the plight of fatherless orphans in our world. My passion is caring for hurting, vulnerable children. I use every resource I have to advocate internationally. I pray my life will be used to make a difference!

A well written poem with a powerful message -- we all possess the power to change a child's life and not let it end in tragedy.

Touched by the misery others know, and choosing to feel there pain, but can we let compassion flow, so only pure love will remain... I feel it Lyric man like I said I'm all in and still willin to share the love, even when it's not easy, I have a need to grow...

This is very well written. It speaks about orphans and also about other abandoned 'others'. Yesterday would have been Nelson Mandela's 100 birthday. A beacon, also for the orphans of this world. Many wishes, Kai

I'd want to take them all home and feed them a nice bowl of soup, or two... Enjoyed your caring heart and your poetry today, thank you L.M.

On my poem "Many a peeved man…" someone (may the prudes at headquarters?) removed my punch line in the last line. It should have read "ambitchous" women, not "amous" which makes no sense in the context. Thought you'd like to know. / M

I feel for you, friend, but you're trying to empty a lifeboat filled with water with a thimbal! Unless 6000 years of "civilization" can be changed, keep trying. For every child that's helped, a thousand will take its place. Thanks for stopping by. / M

From the comments below, there's proof that while the overall issue seems almost unsolvable, many are showing neighbourly love for their fellowman. Just recently started trying to help a young adult, born with hiv, and orphaned at fourteen. He had to drop out of school.. I cant do much, but sometimes "parenting" is about helping someone get up and stand on their own two feet. He calls me Mom. We are working on getting him his drivers licence. Fantastic write, Lyric Man!

We recently became official grandparents to 2 more boys and a girl, brothers and sister, our son and daughter-in-law adopted. I am so proud if all of them. Our communities are overflowing with children needing families. Your poem is strong and should go all over this nation.

And to think we live in a country that we throw away so much food and everyone has dogs, today it was you with the downer poems I have those days happy poems and then I go dark.------------------   Just one more thing have you noticed if something is advertised on the net like an antivirus for a certain price and once you click it always more, I thought I learned that long ago, Microsoft took the liberty to infiltrate my system with an anti virus who asked them
