Lost Within the Past
We climbed the rocky roads to the
curved wooden bridge that stretched
above the cooling crystal waters.
Abandoned under gleaming afternoon lights,
vines of Ivy draped themselves against
haggard wooden poles, reaching out to
touch the various leaves circling below,
where we tucked our feet into shivering water
and counted the stream of small fish swimming between the slippery rocks.
Then I’d slip awake to the rough couch on my
back.
Stupidly dreaming of a yesterday,
losing a tomorrow, we never had.
