Lost to the Theory

You and I seemed a sure thing,
we’d been strong seven years,
had man more up than downs,
nothing wrong, it appeared.
But then you started changing,
talking empowerment,
calling our home a prison,
our kids a detriment.
Saying that a ‘strong woman,’
has no need of a man,
somehow we who loved you most
didn’t fit with your plans.

Do you know
our kids will never forgive you,
and if they saw you right now
they’d probably hit you.
So just leave,
you fell in love with your theory,
found out, too late, it don’t work,
but that isn’t on me.

Then one day you were missing,
out to live your ‘real’ life,
posting things that made it clear
you’re no longer my wife.
Lusting for other women,
calling all men toxic,
not excepting your own son,
how did you get so sick?
Marching to ‘change the world’ and
‘free women from the home,’
urging accountability,
taking none of your own.

Do you know
our kids will never forgive you,
and if they saw you right now
they’d probably hit you.
So just leave,
you fell in love with your theory,
found out, too late, it don’t work,
but that isn’t on me.

And now you’re acting shocked
that you’re tired and alone,
Feel regret for the fact
that these same children have grown;
as if those feminists
ignored something inside,
ten dam years to learn this,
too late, you ruined your life!

Do you know
our kids will never forgive you,
and if they saw you right now
they’d probably hit you.
So just leave,
you fell in love with your theory,
found out, too late, it don’t work,
but that isn’t on me.
