Lost Soul

Addiction in alleyways
Shadow-shrouded eyes
Withdrawal, vomit and jitters
The end of ecstasy as
Dark dreams sear the spirit.
Bed of damp earth with
Newspaper blanket
Covering a lost soul
Fighting demons of darkness
Beyond the night.
Someone's child strayed from its path
Tossed aside on a street to nowhere,
Life winding down like Granny's
Victrola when it needed more muscle
To grind out the tunes that scratch
On one's nerves like nails on a chalkboard.

Powerful portrayal. Good use of imagery. When are you coming back to The Soup my friend. Lots of stuff going on these days, and it really has gotten to be a supportive environment if you have the time to put in. It was good reading one of your poems today. I hope all is going well for you. Karen
