Lost Smiles
I once said of your smile
It was the purpose that I had never known
And for so long
It was so effortless
A kiss
A touch
Or even a look
That was all it took
To light up your face so bright
That it lit up my heart as well
But now it's gone
No look or touch or kiss
Brings the shine back to your eyes
Instead the sadness that lies behind them
Reveals the unspoken truth
And though the love hasn't vanished
The purpose I felt is gone
Replaced with just a question
Why can't I make her smile?
