lost love

it's inexplicable how my hurt and anger evaporated
when I learned of your passing

while you were still a living breathing woman
your rejection seared my soul
yet I secretly hoped for reconciliation
aware of the hopelessness

now there is no chance of changing the situation
with my lifeless hopes scattered like your ashes
and finding oblivion

finally
I realise my feelings for you survived
spurned love untwisted at last
love mistaken for hatred now recognised as frustrated fondness
with my memories of our time together treasured
no longer bitter sweet but sadly soulful

and I miss you so much, love

Congratulations on your 6th place win, Jack, with this very poignant poem. You have channelled my emotions and thoughts of my current private situation. Perhaps you read the two poems I had shared on here since Father’s day – now removed. ’love mistaken for hatred now recognised as frustrated fondness’ is a personal revelation to me, and the personal philosophy ‘no longer bitter sweet but sadly soulful’ I gladly embrace. I found solace in your words.

Oof! Heart-rending. To lose someone you love. Mom died in November and because of our estrangement I never got to thank her. Life is strange

Dear Jack, soulful poet, there is such sad beauty in the evolution of your emotions after learning of a loved one's death. The love, the loss, the hope, the longing are palpable as you come to terms with the new reality and experience a soulful sorrow in place of searing pain. A heartfelt, poignant piece, deeply moving, as you journey through "hurt and anger" to a realization of "fondness" and the embrace of "memories of our time together treasured". Warmest wishes my dear friend.. ~Susan
