Notes About The Poem

10/8/2026 for Autumn Beauty in 12 lines Poetry Contest sponsored by Tania Kitchen

Lost in Autumn Leaves

Nature paints in exquisite detail.
I saw ruby, copper, and gold
as on a rustic trail I strolled
under the canopy of a rustic trail.

Away from the city bustle,
I heard what no one sees,
critters and a gentle breeze,
as through trees they rustle.

I think of memory and time, like thieves,
and on the things I've lost, I muse,
as my thoughts, themselves, I lose
in the Autumn leaves.

The enclosed rhyme in the later stanzas gives the poem a gentle sense of containment, echoing the shelter of the trees. Ruby, copper, and gold bring the autumn scene vividly to life, while the turn towards memory and loss adds a poignant depth to the closing image.
