Losses of War

Picture the scene
On muddied, bloodied fields
Way back in World War One
When neither side would yield

Thousands rise from their trenches
To gain a few hundred yards
As they fall in stench filled craters
Slaughtered souls in life discard

This killing goes on and on
Over the top they go
Shells pounding, bullets zipping
As their blood flows and flows

Four years these horrors raged
Forty five million maimed or fell
Not counting the lost civilians
Who died in this modern hell

Modern conflicts still run and rage
Hero's and villains still engage
Will there be a tomorrow, without these wars
Will the future look back, and wonder what for

Loss of life always seems to me what for until I look at the situation then see what we are fighting against but I would love to see peace on all fronts.I would not want any young person to have to die for their country or cause. Keep the informative and magical pen flowing

....What for, indeed. But for greed, power and whatever else! Will man ever learn? I doubt it, James. Thank you so much for your kind comments! Peace and love, Audrey
