Lord of Lies

Lord of Lies

With an absent mind
  We’re evasive or we lie;
Lies that shortly blind;

We don’t mean harm
  In a prank or a joke
But dazzle and charm,

We’d not lie to kill
  Or lie to mislead.....
We only lie to thrill!

The mask we wear
  Or disguise we stage
Is aimed to court cheer;

Nay, a smile hides pain,
  A pat thwart failure
To break fear’s chain.

To wear self inside-out
  Makes you a bad friend
Or a perfect sell-out!

“There’s tart in Paradise,
  ‘Devil wields a folk..”
Are lies averting demise!

Many times, things
  By their reverse we say
Like fun irony brings.

We cry when happy
  Laugh when enraged....
Swearing is a wet nappy!

Lie mankind
  Lie in the name of mirth
You’ll be the most kind!

For, the naked truth
  Is a naked problem
That brings no ruth!

Thanks Chan. I was hesitant it would be construed as a mission to promote untruths! Friend, JM

Absolutely FABULOUS!!!! What an amazing write. Good one, Joseph....Of course....I'm brutally honest, so.....It's gotten me in trouble lots of times....I need to learn that not all truth must be exposed....Some things are better left unsaid. Loved this poem.......

Thanks for commenting. I was a little hesitant when I posted this one. True- we've got to strike a balance. You can't just say: your mother has been minced in an accident! You may end up with two fatalities. Politeness and Diplomacy make our message kind and acceptable although the message is not quite to do with kindness. I'll do with a short-lived lie that is not meant to do harm! Friend, JM
