Looming Death

Death knocks on our door
A mere courtesy
Needs no permission
Offers no reprieve
Nor grants extension

Quaking in fear
Feeling helpless
We pause the cause
Of contraction

No regrets
No goodbyes
We move on

Light smile
Detached

Void
