Looking Back On Summer Days

Looking back on summer days

On a sunny summer’s day
As I watch the butterfly
Dance around as the flowers sway
My heavy heart will sigh
When the buttercups all grow
And daisies cover the ground
This body now, that is so slow
Just wants to run around
When the blackbirds whistle farewell
To the chicks all leaving homes
New life begins in the glorious dell
I feel my aching bones
When the swallows begin to dive
My eyes are filled with tears
A wonderful summer I see arrive
But enter my twilight years
