Looking Back At the Past
I stared along the littered street,
Recalled a former time,
Remembered walking hand in hand,
One day when you were mine.
And then I gasped and looked again -
I saw us standing there,
A younger you was kissing me,
I told myself,’ Beware.’
I stood alone and watched us kiss,
And couldn’t change the past:
The way we parted had to be;
Our love would never last.
I blinked my tears and saw us fade
And once more you were gone:
The age old sense of loss intense,
I sighed and carried on.
