Look At Ourselves

If we look in the mirror What do we see If we look behind us Is it other than thee If we do a wrong Does it make it right If we apologise Does it change our sight To all who have done wrong Raise your hands If not here In other lands There is many a crime So hideous and wrong But to do wrong once We sing that same song Its the level of wrong That we distinguish to discuss The misdemeanour And the out and out cuss Others will recover A different path they will follow Others will re-offend It's their bitter pill, they will swallow So there comes a time To judge some less Allow their reunion Their second test Jimmy Anderson A young man at thirty one Allow him this chance His new life has began Look back on this day As we look at ourselves How many off us, could have been Left on a shelf http://www.thehighlanderspoems.com/poetry-soup-2.php

Much for the reader to think about in this poem. I agree with Carolyn. I see others are pondering about this one too. To touch others is an important gift. Thank you for sharing yours. Karen

Your poem brings to light some very important questions, to ask ourselves, James. About just how serious we are about what is right. Sincerely, Moses

This is going into my fav's Highlander... (And my curiosity makes me wonder ... Who Is Jimmy?) (smile) ... But true to your words ... 'We' are all in the same row-boat (some just row faster, and harder, than others but all have to plug-up (forgiveness) leaks in the boat ... MoonBee

Seems like serious insite, to ones self, to do wrong is one thing, not to learn is another. All in what you do with you new found knowledge, is what you become. Good insight, interesting poem, good work, keep writing. Judy Riley

Hope Jimmy has a chance to read this, James. There is a lot of truth in your words. We all make mistakes -- human nature -- but remorse and efforts to correct our actions earn us second chances. And it is my belief that only God should be our judge; none of us are so great that we should cast judgment on others. A very spirited, heartfelt write! Love, Carolyn

I feel for anyone during youth that ends up doing something that they regret and have consequences that last for a very long time or even a lifetime. If the person is truly sorry and ask forgiveness and turns around with the aid of people who will help, I think that they deserve the oppourtunity to live a normal life. You have written good poem on the topic of life gone bad. Keep writing. Sara

U always amaze me with your poetry, James.. this is very introspective in its content.. not many of us are honest when we look in the mirror every day.. it should be the soul reflection we see instead of who we want to be.. just be ourselves and we won't get in trouble.. have u joined in on Dane Ann's "Our Many Blessings" segment yet? cool.. u will like.. and u are most welcome .. it was my pleasure to tribute U for U and Carolyn are my "wings" .. enjoy your Sunday... Linda-Marie, "Sweetie"
