This one comes with a nod to Gordon Lightfoot and Bob Dylan.
With the tune of Oh My Sweet Carolina by Ryan Adams humming in the back of my mind. Penned in August of 21.
“Longing For Early Morning Rain”
I’m longing,
For the early morning rain.
The heat of summer,
Is driving me insane.
The days are long and hot,
I wonder why I even came.
I’m just longing,
For the early morning rain.
.
I never dreamed
That I’d still be living this long.
Endless parade of memories,
From past faces come and gone.
I wandered in from out of nowhere,
Didn’t plan on staying long.
Sure thought I knew just what I knew,
But I sure might just be wrong.
.
So I’m still longing
For the early morning rain.
The heat of summer,
Is driving me insane.
The days are long and hot,
I wonder why I even came.
I’m just longing,
For the early morning rain.
.
I’m walking down this trail of memories,
Hoping for that old familiar breeze.
The shadows and the shade,
From that long forgotten tree,
Recall the things that seemed to matter,
The things that used to be.
So
I’m longing
For the early morning rain.
The heat of summer,
Is driving me insane.
The days are long and hot,
I wonder why I even came.
I’m just longing,
For the early morning rain.
.
I want to dance in the rain,
I want to feel young once again.
Wish I could right my youthful wrongs from way back when.
But I get no second chances,
I’m just wishing in the wind,
For the early morning rain to come again.
.
I’m just longing
For the early morning rain.
The heat of summer,
Is driving me insane.
The days are long and hot,
I wonder why I even came.
I’m just longing,
For the early morning rain.
