Longing

First love never dies away
Just slowly calms to cool
Yet for me loving you has been
A constant, I’m a fool.

Loving you can hurt so much
It’s painful and confusing
And honestly I don’t know how
To stop my heart from bruising

I told you that I loved you
Too many years ago
I thought the love would ebb away
Instead it proves to grow.

Seeing you again was such
A trigger to my heart
I cannot stop from loving you
Yet still we are apart.

You express yourself very well, Emma. Your very first line says it all. It's been over 50 yrs for me. I still remember mine:)
