Long Ago

Long Ago I left the church due to hypocrisy they wouldn't accept those different from me Long Ago I walked out the door at age fourteen leaving an alcoholic family and the abuse I'd seen Long Ago I fought for equality and equal rights expressed my feelings with rebellious fights Long Ago I searched for love amongst mankind futile efforts I must have been blind Long Ago I was imprisoned for a foolish crime still paying today though I've done my time Long Ago I looked in the mirror saw a coroners shelf decided to make changes starting with self Long Ago I used to write just to get away now I realize long ago is still today
