Lonesome

in the end
you're alone
beginning-
mind alone
then somewhere in between
you lose the aloneness
and its treacherous

trying to find your soul
looking behind you,
up ahead
when it's a shadow in the day
satan's best friend at night
the little voice you hear
the conversations replay

and you become more alone
then you ever thought you could handle
because in the end,
when you're alone,
it's only you
your happiness
no one else can persuade
no one else can make you smile
in the end
you're responsible
you choose to smile or silence
