Lonely Winter Night

In the hearth the fire crackles, burning aglow
Outside the wind blows, the rain beats against the window
Sam lays near the fire warming herself through this winter night; I read my book by fire light, wrapped in a blanket
I wait for your return, though I know you’ll never show
I’m warm and cozy and want to move.
I look outside in time to see headlights driving by; you are gone never to come back
Fresh snow has just started to fall now
I finish the last page of my book and stretch
I lean back and fall into a deep, deep sleep.

Hmmm this is great stuff. A vivid picture of loneliness here...I really like the last line. Falling into sleep never to wake up again...so long loneliness!!!...lovely write, I always enjoy this kinda poem.
