Notes About The Poem
One day as I was on the way to church I passed a gentleman holding a sign in the rain. He was holding a piece of a cardboard with his needs scribbled in black letters. No one stopped...
I thought about that man day after day for quite a while. He inspired me to write this poem about a lonely traveler in search of a warm place and a bite to eat.
Lonely Traveler
Lonely traveler
Searched for light in dark of night
Toes, like gavels, pound
ice covered asphalt. Poignant
cry echoes behind closed doors…
Inside, warm bodies
nibble cake and sip hot tea
as sojourner seeks
a smidgen of sympathy.
Lights on, but its dark inside…
