Lollypop Saga

LOLLYPOP SAGA

the lollypop sits
as it has for seven years
on a window sill
immune to the flow of time
abandoned but not lonely

the girl who left it
learns about carbohydrates
in chemistry class
not thinking of the sucrose
in the sweetness she forgot

she discovers it
during her college spring break
and promptly eats it.
one might say the confection
achieves its final purpose

but wait- there is more!
she converts the sucrose to
carbon dioxide.
thus the candy's destiny
is to aid global warming
