Lockdown In the Mind

We’ve all been stuck in lockdown but I know another kind. It’s a different imprisonment; it’s lockdown in the mind. It’s not controlled by government or those in roles that lead. It’s like an evil force that took up residence in me. It’s not reviewed by data and it’s not controlled by man, it preys on any victim just because it knows it can. Though it does have similarities to what we all now know, like rules of who to speak to, what to do and where to go. It makes me want to isolate when it’s on the attack. At times it disappears though I expect it to be back. In some ways like the virus it can catch me by surprise. It makes me fear the world but also thoughts I keep inside. Imagine if this lockdown now was all you’d ever known. The only place that you felt safe was hiding in your home. Some with mental illness live their lives like this each day; they struggle with the outside world so try to hide away. Corona virus lockdown that we know will one day stop; for those with mental illness lockdown in their mind may not. That’s not to say it can’t be beat; I’ve conquered it before, through faith and understanding and a lot of good support. But I want to raise awareness while this time is far from nice, that for many round the world this type of lockdown is their life. So we must be understanding, show compassion all the time; be patient with our loved ones and above all else, be kind. 18.08.2020
