Lo Boy

for Abraham

‘Lo boy, this day—where finds thee?
‘Lo boy, what binds thee to?
‘Lo boy, which path doth call thee,
to that still and quiet room?

‘Lo boy, what temple draws thee from,
or to, some distant stay?
‘Lo boy, what muse divines you
as you craft the words you’ll say?

Fear not if bringing truth-be-told,
that quiet voice so clear;
that far above the din, is heard—
that draws thee up to hear.

Fear not if distance far and long,
If call you hear is true—
you’ll find yourself among the stones
that spoil your comfort to.

And then, you’ll be the best of men,
The finest there can be.
For deep inside the man be gone,
And boy you’ll ever be.
